African Film Festival Atlanta Opens Call for Submissions for 2026 Edition: Early Bird Deadline Submission

[ATLANTA, GA] (July 14, 2025) – The African Film Festival Atlanta (AFFATL), powered by the African Film & Arts Foundation Inc. (AFAF), is now officially accepting film submissions for its 2026 edition, which will take place from March 26 to March 30, 2026. In its fifth year, AFFATL continues its mission of spotlighting compelling African and Diasporic storytelling by inviting filmmakers to submit films that inspire, challenge, and reflect the evolving pulse of African cinema.

The 2026 festival theme, “CTRL + CULTURE = AFRICA’S NEXT CINEMA CODE” reflects how African filmmakers are using technology and digital innovation to shape and take control of their own narratives. This theme explores how African cinema is evolving through the integration of culture with tools like artificial intelligence and digital media. It signals a future where African storytelling is driven by intentional creativity, technological empowerment, and a renewed ownership of cultural expression across the continent and the Diaspora.

AFFATL is proud to be Georgia’s first homegrown African film festival and one of the few cultural events in the southeastern United States exclusively dedicated to films by and about people of African descent. With each edition, the festival grows in scale and impact, curating bold, diverse films and building a platform where African voices lead the conversation.

We are always looking for stories that challenge stereotypes, celebrate nuance, and center African perspectives in fresh and resonant ways,” said Mojisola Sonoiki, Festival Director. “This festival is about more than cinema; it is about truth-telling, creativity, and connection. As AI and digital platforms shape global narratives, it is vital that our stories, images, and cultural knowledge are present and authentically represented.”

Filmmakers are invited to submit works across the following categories: Narrative Features, Documentary Features, Narrative Shorts, Documentary Shorts

Films of all genres are welcome. We welcome films that reflect the richness, complexity, and brilliance of African and Diaspora experiences. Submissions are especially encouraged from filmmakers of African descent.
