THE AFRICAN FILM FESTIVAL ATLANTA
Founded in 2020 by award winning filmmaker and cultural curator Mojisola Sonoiki, the African Film Festival Atlanta (AFFATL) is powered by the African Film & Arts Foundation Inc (AFAF)., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit media arts organization whose mission is to amplify the stories, voices, and creative expressions of people from Africa and the African Diaspora through the lens of film, arts, and culture.
AFFATL is Georgia’s first homegrown African film festival and one of the only of its kind in the Southeast. Each year, since inception, it has presented 50+ films from 20+ countries, hosted filmmakers from Africa and the Diaspora, and reached 1,000+ attendees annually.
AFFATL has been honored by the Georgia House of Representatives for advancing cultural representation. Considered to be one of most Influential and fastest-growing African film festivals in the Southeast, AFFATL has a strong emphasis on contemporary African storytelling, technology, and cultural dialogue.
AFFATL aims to shape global conversations and drive meaningful action by elevating films that transform narratives about people of African descent. Rooted in Atlanta’s identity as a dynamic social, educational, artistic, cultural, and film production hub, AFFATL showcases the passion, nuance, and evolving trends of African cinema amplifying authentic stories that reflect the richness and diversity of the continent.
